When Family & Friends Try And Take Over

It’s not uncommon.

You have the vision for your day.

It’s going to be everything the both of you dreamed of.

Then it happens …

A family member or friend tells you “No, no, no!!! You are doing it all wrong!”

“Honey, that’s not what I did on my wedding day. It’s not the way it is supposed to be done!”

“Nobody does it that way!”

“What will aunt Dorothy think if you break with tradition?”

There are a TON of things that you may hear from a lot of different people all who have an opinion.
(I won’t go into it, but you’ve heard what opinions are like right?)

How do you fix it?

You win by sticking to your guns.

It shouldn’t have to feel like you need to fight just to have the day the way you want, but sometimes you do!

I would never recommend arguing with the person trying to persuade you to change. Remember, despite how much you think they are just trying to meddle in your day, they actually mean well. If they didn’t they probably wouldn’t have an opinion at all!

The best thing is to smile, be gentle with them and thank them for their suggestion and tell them you will definitely take it under consideration (even though you probably won’t!).

They just want to be heard. So let them be heard.

Remember, it’s YOUR day. It’s NOT theirs.

Do things the way YOU want because you don’t get a chance to do it over again.

Your friends and family will respect your decision if they love you.

Warmly,
